The apartment offers free on-street parking from Friday evenings until early Monday morning.
Customer Testimonials "The apartment was truly excellent. The description is accurate but the reality is much better. We were made to feel very welcome in this chic apartment, which provided everything we could ever need and was extremely comfortable. The outside space was beautiful, and we looked forward to getting back after our planned activities each day. The location is perfect - the city is within easy walking distance, and there is also the attractions of Stockbridge nearby. The property host could not have been more helpful, and her contact was very reassuring. We would highly recommend this New Town apartment - we hope to visit it again." Mo - Dornoch, UK
A lovely comfortable and remarkably quiet apartment. Handy for Stockbridge with it's many restaurants and bars. The property hosts kept in touch with us before and during the weekend which is always reassuring. Thanks for the groceries and chocolates truly appreciated. Bruce D - London, UK
Very comfortable central flat. Nicely decorated with all home comforts provided. No central heating but fire in living area and heater in hall kept the flat warm and cosy. The property host very kindly provided tea, milk etc for our arrival. Highly recommend this flat to others. Killen - Glasgow, UK
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our recent stay at this wonderful apartment on Cumberland Street in Edinburgh. It's a stone's throw from the famous Cumberland Bar which is a wonderful pub with excellent food. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Within several blocks are excellent restaurants including The French Press which we highly recommend for breakfast and The Spice Pavilion and Indian food at its best.
The apartment is clean and well appointed and is below street level. We could hear street noise but it was infrequent and not a bother. The washing machine came in handy as the airline lost our luggage!
We highly recommend this location and can share that yes, there is a bit of a hill to climb to get to George and Princes Streets. But that's only to get there which makes the return walk home after a long day of touring a welcome site! Jeff M
This quiet apartment was perfect for two American tourists in Edinburgh for the Fringe. Everything was as pictured and promised by our excellent host, and we would definitely stay again. The location is nice and quiet - just a block off a large main route leading directly to Princes Street, crossing fashionable George Street and Queen Street's lovely gardens. There are several small cafes and restaurants along that route, and a Margiotta's grocery a block or so in the opposite direction - very convenient for enjoying a variety of cuisine or stocking the kitchen. The literary-famous Cumberland Bar is very nearby, serving excellent brews and delicious not-the-usual-pub-grub fare. (The bar staff were warmly welcoming, too - highly recommended!)
Instructions for the appliances are provided, along with a nice selection of CDs for the player, satellite television, and strong wi-fi, which we had no trouble accessing. The rain kept us from sitting in the garden, but it offers a charming green view from the kitchen/living area, and the fresh flowers on the desk were a lovely touch.
Being below ground, it can seem a bit damp, but there is a gas fire and portable electric radiator, neither of which we needed to be comfortable in August. There is no clothes dryer, so plan to hang any wet clothing for at least a day to dry. There are two long clothes bars in the bedroom and a large variety of hangers, which we found very helpful.
The bedroom is at the front of the apartment, and we did hear some folks chatting as they walked by on Friday night, but it was only the one small group and only that one night - the rest of the week the street was very quiet, with very little foot or vehicle traffic that we noticed.
The bathroom is small by American standards but perfectly adequate, with plenty of shelf space for toiletries. The shower stall was a bit short for my 6'2" partner - which I only mention in case shower size is make-or-break for future renters. The electric shower was easy to operate with good pressure and temperature, and we had plenty of hot water for washing dishes and clothes.
Our only cautions to American travelers in Edinburgh have to do with the terrain rather than the apartment: Getting to the Old Town area (Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Grassmarket, etc.) from this apartment is a mostly uphill hike. As the crow flies, those areas are 1-2km away... On the hilly terrain, it will take longer than you think (and more effort than you imagine) to walk there. The local bus is very convenient, however, and there are stops at or near every attraction you may want to see.
This apartment rental was very preferable to a comparably priced hotel room anywhere or a rental in the Old Town/Royal Mile/Grassmarket areas, which were jam-packed with people 24/7 and quite noisy at night. We absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the best of Edinburgh! M, Baltimore, US
