Cosy hide away.

Edlets organised this cosy little flat for a few days in Edinburgh. I have enjoyed short breaks in Edinburgh for some years at both good & mediocre apartments in both the old and New town.
Although the New Town is further away from night life and attractions, I prefer to stay in this area, as I love Stockbridge and it's shops, plus the area is relatively quiet. I arrived late at night and could not access the key box, so had to call Mel, the manager. She arrived within ten minutes, which was wonderful, and let me in. She was equally helpful the next day when she dropped by a mobile charger plug, as had forgotten mine.
The one bedroomed basement flat was small, but very warm and cosy with very comfortable furniture and fittings. The TV set has Virgin cable so you can access a wealth of channels.A well stocked kitchen, all very clean, and with breakfast basket with tea, coffee, hand marmalades and cereal. Nice touch. WiFi is very quick, but being a basement, the mobile signal is sometimes slow to respond. Sometimes you had to go outside. There is a lovely seating area outside the flat with a table chairs and a bench.
Fridge and freezer, easy to work cooker and plenty of hot water. Bathroom was compact. Small bath (fine for short people like me!)and an over head shower. The loo is rather lower than I'm used to, but fine. Sadly I failed to find a shower mat.I'm sure Mel would have helped out if I'd asked. Bedroom was excellent with a nice view of next doors garden and a window seat. The bed was also very comfortable with nice linen and the added bonus of another TV set! The flat, without doubt, was the quietest I've ever stayed in.
The apartment is approximately 10 minutes from Stockbridge, with all its wonderful eateries, artisan coffee outlets and eclectic shops. (Do visit Caoba for cards and gifts! Or Mellis Cheese shop for the most wonderful variety of unpasteurised, glorious cheeses.) On Sunday there is Stockbridge market. It's an institution!. Then you could walk along the river to the art gallery. Such a peaceful walk. You might even see an otter!
Princes Street is a half an hour walk uphill. I am middle aged and not the fastest walker, but a pleasant journey. There are plentiful buses for those who prefer, or phone a taxi should you wish. Another bonus is that across the road is one of the very best pubs in Edinburgh, the Cumberland Bar with its excellent ales and a good selection of food. Please note, the flat is not wheelchair accessible as there is a set of stairs to the front door.
The test is, would I stay again? Yes, of course. Many thanks to Mel for making my stay very comfortable. I'd recommend this property, without question. Thank you, Edlets.
