Merchiston is bordered by Morningside and Bruntsfield both of which have an eclectic range of boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
To the north of Merchiston is the Union Canal which runs from Edinburgh to Falkirk and along which you can take a walk or cycle. You can also walk down to Bruntsfield Links and play a round for free on the short hole golf course. Or, if the weather is clement, take a picnic and relax on The Meadows.
Buses run frequently from Merchiston into the city centre. The journey takes around twenty minutes.
