Not what we expected

We stayed in University housing for the Fringe last year and it was great, so we expected a similar experience. It was not.

When we arrived the property had not been cleaned. Some people rushed upstairs "clean" but only changed the bed sheets, leaving the old sheets on the floor of the rooms. When we finally got entry to the rooms (late) they were filthy. There was hair in the sinks, dirty toilets and showers. The drains in several of the showers (we had 8 rooms) were clogged, and remained clogged though our entire stay, despite multiple maintenance requests. They people in these rooms had to use showers in other rooms. The kitchen was also dirty and we ended up cleaning it ourselves. There were no towels and we were also short on duvets and pillows. Housekeeping never actually did come to clean the rooms that week. I think they only came two times during the entire month.

Part of the reason we chose this housing was for the laundry onsite. We need to wash our show costumes regularly. However, the laundry room was taken out of commission mid-stay. We were invited to use a different facility--a 10 min walk away. Quite a few of us had just topped up our laundry cards and so that money was lost.

The reception desk is only staffed from 3-6, unlike where we stayed last year, where there was someone available all day. This made things like receiving our lost luggage very difficult. Getting refills on toilet paper was a challenge and took days.

We did get a partial refund for the first day of our stay, however I wouldn't stay here again.

The apartment wasn’t that clean with kitchen floor dirty, showers dirty. There was poo left outside the front door of the building which wasn’t cleared. Reception was shut when we needed help and number provided was incorrect. Missing towels and pillows and no dustpan and brush. Took a while to work out how to use the hob and oven.

We are a theatre group that had come to Edinburgh for the Fringe. We paid 2600 approximately for the 6 flats for the week. The location was great with good access to the city centre and local shops.

Problems we had on arrival - less than one towel per person were resolved quickly. A couple of extra bin bags and one or two bags for the food recycling container would have been useful and would have meant less work for the cleaners.

This was great for performers with a fair few cast members of different ages - private rooms but communal get together space

Slightly further out then would have liked but really good bus routes.

Lovely people.

A little bit pricey but suppose not really for fringe time....

Would definitely book this kind of facility and through Edlets again.

We come up to Edinburgh every year for the Fringe (except 2020 obvs) and usually stay in university accommodation as there are 7 of us in two family groups. Couldn’t get our usual flats so used these ones. They were more expensive and further out from the areas we frequent, although it’s a nice hearty walk and we got to extend our knowledge of Edinburgh. However, we are SPOILT! These flats were FANTASTIC! Super clean, spacious, comfortable, and everyone got their OWN EN-SUITE. Oh my word, the happiness and calmness ensuing from not having to wait/queue/shout ‘hurry up’ for showers and toilets is totally worth the cost and extra walking! The bedrooms are clean and comfortable and don’t smell weird. The flat does not have creaky floors. The kitchen is well equipped and with enough crockery and utensils for all of us so we didn’t have to bring extra with us. The comfy seating was plentiful and the dining table was bar height so we could sit or stand at it, good for games of Exploding Kittens. The living space in the kitchen/living room was big enough so we didn’t feel cramped and we could lounge around/drink and eat/play games/dance all at the same time with no one in the way.
Also the key fobs were easy to use, no standing trying to fiddle with two keys knowing you always choose the wrong one first. Any issues, which were few, such as a toilet that didn’t flush, were dealt with extremely quickly - fantastic service. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that these flats are super nice.
