You get what you pay for

In town for the fringe for a week. Our room was not ready when we arrived but we only had to wait about 15 minutes. The room was NOT Clean which is the majority of the reason for the bad review. There was hair on the floor and the bed. The toilet was not clean and there were unused bath products in the shower. The refrigerator smelled bad as did the trash. We let the people at the desk know and they were like deer in the headlights. They are likely university students and have minimal training.
The location is great and it is nice to have the laundry available. We also enjoyed the ping pong table.
Overall I do not think I would stay here again if I had options

Location: good for Fringe events (my reason for being in Edinburgh).
Site: in modern blocks & fine.
Room: basic but comfortable & clean enough; had a wetroom-bathroom which didn’t drain very fast - and the door didn’t reach the floor - so there was some flooding when shower was first used.
Reception: slow and disorganised, and it took just over 25 minutes to check in. Thankfully my room was ready but plenty weren’t - even though 1500 is clearly given as check-in time.
